Share5 Tweet34 Pin6 Share1Shares 46If you couldn’t tell already, I love Twitter. Twitter can be anything you want it to be. Informative, entertaining, a marketing tool, or simply a great place to win cool stuff. I’ve won many things on Twitter. Concert tickets, food, taxi credits, gift cards and, most recently, VIP Passes to the Much Music Video Awards. And I’m going to show you how I do it. We’re operating on the assumption you already have a Twitter account. If you don’t, sign up here. Twitter has a feature called Lists, and it’s crucial to the process. Let’s go through how to make your first Twitter List. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen. A drop down menu will appear. Click on “Lists”. After this screen shows up, click on “Create New List”. From here, you simply name your List, and description of it, then choose whether you want to make it public or private. If you make it public, people will be able to Subscribe to your List. When you’re finished, click “Save List”. This is what you’ll see. It’s empty, because we haven’t added any accounts to the List. Let’s do that now. Use the search feature to start finding accounts to add to the list. It’s best to try to find smaller, local accounts. You have a much better chance at winning something from an account that has 5,000 followers, then one that has 100,000. Look for local blogs, magazines, concert promoters, and film distributors. They give away stuff frequently to increase their follower base. Once you’ve found some, here’s how to add it to your list: This is an example of a contest/giveaway tweet. Click on the account name itself. The user’s profile will pop up. Click on the gear icon beside the “Follow” button. A drop down menu will appear. Click on “Add or Remove From Lists”. This menu will pop up. Click the box next to the List you want to add the user to. A check mark will appear to confirm it’s been added. Once you’ve added a few users and accounts, your List will start to populate with tweets, as shown above. Here’s an example of two contest/giveaway tweets. In the first one above, all you have to do is click “Retweet”, and make sure you’re following the account. The tweet below contains a link, simply click that, then follow the instructions on how to enter the contest. The reason Lists become so important, is that once you start following other Twitter accounts that are not related to contests, these contest tweets can be easily lost amongst everything else in your feed. Check your contests List 1-2 times a day. Get to retweeting and win some cool stuff! Shout-out to my friend @kaylasheaphoto for introducing me to the free swag side of Twitter.
