(scroll to the bottom for the handy infographic)

1. Keyword stuffing

Keyword stuffing is the act of unnaturally inserting a keyword throughout your page, to the point where it makes reading the article incomprehensible. In the short-term, it will likely work, but Google catches on quick, and they will punish you severely in the long-term.

2. Broken links

Keep up the housecleaning on your site or blog, because if you’ve got links that lead to nowhere, Google is going to notice.

3. Copying content

Not only is it illegal to copy other sites content, Google will recognize plagiarism, and devalue your site as a result. Invest some time and effort in creating your own content. It will pay off.

4. Content duplication

Don’t copy your own content either. Make sure each page has it’s own original copy, engaging each visitor in it’s own way.

5. Poor content quality

Content is king. Have a solid content strategy, creating content that is relevant and important to your audience. Research and proofread everything.

6. Non-unique title tags

Google indexes the title tags for each page, so make sure each one is unique and keyword-specific. Watch out for auto-generated titles as they may not be the best fit for your content.

7. Non-unique meta descriptions

Make sure your meta descriptions are not repetitive, and as descriptive as possible within 160 characters.

8. Non credible links

When you link to other content, blogs, or sites, make sure it has a high PR (PageRank). PR is what search engines like Google use to establish credibility, whether a site is an authority and thought-leader in that industry or topic. Focus on quality over quantity.

9. Avoiding the use of analytics

If you don’t use analytics, how can you measure your SEO?

10. Optimizing the wrong keywords

If you use the wrong keywords, you’ll rank high for searchers who are not interested in your content. Know your target audience and cater to them. Not understanding your audience is one of the biggest reasons small business websites fail.

    Hello,

Well, Greatly described points about SEO mistakes, we make or have made in our past.

When it started my career in blogging, the only thing I know, was writing article and building links, but majority of my articles were full of keywords and the links I was building was just spam links with optimized anchor texts.

Also, I was not aware of internal links important, but with time everything has improved and these days, I rarely make any SEO mistake.

But, still a huge number of newbies are making these mistakes and I sadly say, that they are wasting their valuable time.

So, considering this, a brilliant post written, it will help many out there, searching for this.

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers
